Social Media for Nonprofits is the world’s only conference series dedicated to social media for social good and this year was the first time they hosted the Nonprofit Boot Camp that was formerly put on by the Craigslist Foundation and it was a hit!

The event sold out a few days before taking place at JCCSF on October 10th. There were 573 tweets during the day with both the boot camp’s hashtag #NPBC13 and the event’s overall hashtag #SM4NP. The boot camp started off with 160 tweets in the morning during @ChipConley’s, Airbnb’s Head of Global Hospitality, opening keynote.

On Friday, October 11 @Dheyman asked attendees to tweet to his wife who wasn’t able to attend the Social Media 4 Nonprofit conference due to a family event. Attendees obliged and sent over 75 well wishes to @ritusharma1!

While analyzing the tweets, we decided to take a look at the demographics and locations of those tweeting during #SM4NP’s and were a little surprised! Sixty-eight percent of the attendees tweeting this event were female and thirty-two percent were male.

#SM4NP Demographics for San Francisco October Event

Since this event was local to San Francisco, we expected many of the participants to be California based and were surprised to see people from Virgina, New York, Boston, Seattle and Michigan. While looking at locations, there were well over 45% of #SM4NP’s participants that are California based, which was expected.
